2024 marked the 25th anniversary of CityArk, the Medway Council online archives catalogue (cityark.medway.gov.uk) significant as the first UK public sector (and possibly the first UK) piece-level, hierarchical archives catalogue to be published online, preceding the National Archives ProCat (now Discovery) and Essex Record Office’s Seax (now Essex Archives Online).

The IPIA is well known for the high-quality of our conferences, business networking sessions and social events. They were very proud that on December 3rd, at the Crowne Plaza, Stratford-Upon-Avon, they held their Recognising Excellence Awards. It was a day-time Expo and Networking Lunch, followed by their celebrated Gala Dinner and Awards night.

With an investment in a new Speedmaster XL 106-7+L, Herbert Walkers has made a further significant step forward in the greeting card and packaging sector. The new machine will improve production and reduce energy consumption, enhancing the company’s green credentials. Herbert Walkers currently have three high-performing HEIDELBERG Speedmaster presses in operation, though they are starting to age. The team recognised that lithographic printing technologies has developed significantly over the last decade, and knew they needed to invest in this new technology.

One of the nice things about being a clergyman is the sheer variety of the job. And I have acquired a new role for the academic year: I am now chaplain to an old friend of mine, Gregory Jones KC, who has become the Aldermanic Sheriff for the City of London. My church, St Alban’s Holborn, is just outside the City, although I can see the boundary from my dining-room window, and, indeed, part of the parish is in the City. So it is quite fun to move into that world for a little while. To date, I have attended ‘my’ Sheriff at his installation, and taken part in the ceremonies for the election of the new Lord Mayor, and later his installation at the so-called ‘Silent Ceremony’. The only words spoken on that occasion were those of the oath of office

The 20th Stationers’ Christmas Trade lunch was a sellout, with 292 guests attending from the design, digital, newspaper, office products, packaging, paper and print industries.
More than £20,000 was raised for Children In Need and the Company’s charities.
